A cat-and-dog calendar was launched to create greater awareness of abandoned animals.
It was launched with a “No More Homeless Pets” campaign at the Pets Wonderland of the One Utama Shopping Centre on Saturday.
It was the brainchild of Sherrina Krishnan of Rhinowrites Communication.
On every page of the calendar are adorable kitties and pooches belonging to animal lovers.
For this project, Sherrina has joined hands with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Malaysia, which has a pet rescue programme.
The programme provides funds, guidance and training, and to network with individuals and groups to find homes for unwanted pets.
“Sherrina said 4,000 desk calendars, at RM39.90 each, have been printed and the proceeds from the sale will go to the SPCA and the Malaysian National Animal Welfare Foundation.
Sherrina plans to organise some events to encourage adoption of abandoned animals.
SPCA Selangor chairman Christine Chin said that every month, some 1,000 dogs and cats are dumped at the SPCA but only about 100 are adopted.
Chin said the society was now discouraging the dumping of pets at the SPCA and only accepts strays.
On the German shepherd, Sheena, which was abused by its owner, Chin said the SPCA would appeal to the High Court.
She said the SPCA wanted the owner to be given a six-month imprisonment and a life-time ban from owning pets.
